Winter storm warning for
Webequie continued

Major late season winter storm producing 20 to 30 centimetres of snow and some blowing snow.

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Another snow storm is ignoring the calendar and affecting many portions of Far Northern Ontario. The storm centre is near Kapuskasing late this morning and will continue to intensify as it tracks towards James Bay by this evening.

Snow heavy at times is affecting a swath from Pickle Lake through Lansdowne House towards Attawapiskat.

Total snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 centimetres are expected from this storm in many areas. Locally higher amounts near 40 centimetres are possible in a few localities. In fact Pickle Lake has reported 43 centimetres as of 11 AM this morning. The snow will likely be mixed with ice pellets or some brief freezing rain over Attawapiskat early this afternoon which may reduce accumulations there. However as colder air is ushered in by strong northerly winds later today any ice pellets or freezing rain would change quickly back to all snow.

Snow will come to an end in Pickle Lake this afternoon but not taper off until Sunday morning in Attawapiskat.

Strong northerly winds are also expected to be an issue causing low visibilities in snow and blowing snow in exposed areas. In addition the winds in Attawapiskat are expected to reach 60 km/h with gusts to 80 km/h behind the cold front overnight.

Dangerous winter travelling conditions are expected and travellers should adjust plans accordingly. Stay tuned for further updates on this storm as Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation.
