I can't speak for the project delays however I do work in a manufacturing plant. We used to be able to get a power transformer that was either on the shelf or custom built in two months. Lead times for larger transformers are 12 months now. Pyrogenesis uses lots of power for their torches. They need large transformers for the power requirements and I don't doubt they are all custom made using specific voltages for clients. While it's easy to say they should have seen this coming I can tell you that nobody saw it coming. We have been waiting to hook up new equipment that is shipped to our site while we wait months for a transformer to get it to work. We assumed that we would have been able to get one sooner and ordered the transformer with what we thought was an adequate lead time. This is a large problem affecting utility companies as well. There is a new subdivision down the street running overhead wiring which is almost unheard of in the area now. I asked why and they said the utility company can't provide large transformers to do the whole section of houses and are now forced to put overhead wiring with pole mount transformers.
These power delays could be the reason for many of the delays that are being seen from iron pelletization clients, progressive planet delays and any number of projects that they have on the go. It's frustrating but there doesn't seem to me an end in site for these delays.
