Keep in mind folks, that there may come a time when the US government must start thinking of self preservation as well. They know well the consequences of their own actions in printing money and may start accumulating some gold themselves to hedge against their policies.

Ya, with all the conspiracies we think about it sounds unlikely, but they have still have to have to run some saftey nets. I don't think it's out of the question that they could start buying gold or confiscating it for that matter.
