TASCAM is the professional audio division of TEAC Corporation, headquartered in Montebello, California. Tascam is credited as the inventor of the Portastudio, the first cassette-based multi-track home studio recorders. Tascam also introduced the first low-cost mass produced multitrack recorders with Simul-Sync designed for recording musicians. Tascam also manufactured reel to reel tape machines and audio mixers for home recordists from the early 1970's through the mid 1990's.
Tascam started out as a research and development group to research how to use TEAC's recording technology in musician and recording studio products. The group was called TASC (TEAC Audio Systems Corp.) The founders included Mr. K. Tani, one of the founders of TEAC-Japan and Dr. Abe, a senior TEAC-Japan engineer. In 1971 TASCAM (TASC AMerica Corp.) was founded to distribute TASC products in the U.S. It also conducted additional market research in the US for the Japanese parent company. The company's first headquarters was at 5440 McConnell Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90066. In 1974 it moved its headquarters to 7733 Telegraph Road, Montebello, California.
Tascam's first products were TEAC brand multitrack recorders. In 1972 it introduced the first low-cost mass produced multitrack recorders with Simul-Sync:
The A3340S 4 track recorders with 10.5" tape reels
The A2340S 4 track recorders with 7" tape reels
In 1973 they introduced the first Tascam branded products:
M-10 mixer
Series 70H-X MTR
Series 70H-8 MTR
On March 4th, 1973 TEAC merges the Tascam Corporation into TEAC Corporation of America (TCA). TEAC-Japan retains the exclusive worldwide rights to the TASCAM brand name for their professional audio related products.

Tascam distributed the MMR-8 and MMR-16 audio film dubbers which won an Emmy in 1995 for "Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development".[2] and an Emmy in 2000 during the "Prime Time Emmy Awards".[3] These multi-track hard disk recording systems were designed by TimeLine Vista of San Marcos, California under the product management leadership of Michael Newman (product marketer).
Portable Recorder offers high-quality sound and simple operation
Montebello, CA – (February 15, 2011): TASCAM, the company that invented home recording, has launched the DR-05, a new portable recorder with high-resolution audio quality that’s simple to use.
The stereo recorder features a pair of condenser microphones with sensitivity up to 125dB SPL and low noise, designed to capture every detail and dynamic of a performance. The design of the DR-05 is optimized for sound quality, from the dedicated power supply for the codec to bring out the full spec of the A/D and D/A converter to the separate analog & digital circuit boards and low impedance circuit design with noise resistance in its compact case. The DR-05 records to microSD or microSDHC media, recording in MP3 or WAV (BWF) file format at up to 96kHz/24-bit resolution.
The new DR-05‘s great-sounding recordings are easy to operate. The Peak reduction function sets the optimum recording level even in recording to avoid the over level. Quick Menu selects commonly used parameters in playback or record like auto level setting or limiting, while deeper settings are available through a full-featured setup menu. The 1/8” mic/line input can supply power for microphones. A Level Align function prevents uneven volume levels during playback through the 1/8” headphone output or built-in speaker. Variable-Speed Audition – which changes playback speed without affecting pitch – and looping are also available during playback for transcription or learning new music. 17.5 hours of longer battery life at 44.1kHz/16-bit, WAV (BWF) is long enough for any recording situation.
For recording live music, band rehearsals, classes or simply sharing your music with the world, http://tascam.com/news/display/613/product/dr-05/">TASCAM’s DR-05 is an unbeatable value.
