Combining Classic Mineral Exploration with State of the Art Technology
Bill, with most any investment/speculation the lower the risk (or the lower the percention of risk, as in manias), the more people and/or institutions there are who become interested. This is what happens with exploration companies as they meet with success, so there is an ever enlarging body or prospective buyers of shares.
The opposite is true, too, as we have been experiencing. The longer a company operates without success, the more selling pressure - and/or dilution - there is on the stock, driving the price down.
...or do I misunderstand the question, as I am not sure what your mean by "general investing public"? I ask because, and IMO, the "general investing public" should not be putting money into explorers, be they looking for hydrocarbons or metals.
