I am reminded of a story by the World Wildlife Fund (of all sources) from about twenty years ago, which observed that within fifty years, there would not be enough metals available on the planet to supply all the needs projected. 

Historically, however, doomsday forecasts never seem to come about.  Remember "Peak Oil"?

Still, copper seems to have a strong future once we get over a developing correction that may now be underway.
