Discovery Mine, located on Tyhee’s YGP at OrmsbyProject,was the most profitable mine ever in Yellowknife! Although Giant Mine produced 8.5 million ounces at lower grades, the Discovery Mine produced a million ounces of gold at an average grade of 31.1 grams per tonne. At lesser grades, Webb said, Discovery would not have been economic when gold prices were as low as they were during its operation.

It was after the mine reached 4,000 feet below surface, that those bonanza grades were exhausted and the mine shut down.
