Preparations underway for Hungary-Slovakia gas line

Hungary and Slovakia are both preparing feasibility studies for a gas pipeline that is to run between the two countries, according to Radio Slovakia International and Hungarian gas distributor FGSz Földgázszállító.

A preliminary gauge of the market to determine the capacity of the pipeline has already been carried out, and the first capacity tender is expected to be called in the spring of 2010, said FGSz, which will build the stretch of the pipeline in Hungary. A final decision on the investment has not yet been made, but FGSz and Slovakian peer Eustream are in talks on the technical parameters, tariff structure and other questions.

Radio Slovakia International said on its website that Eustream has prepared the environmental impact study for the pipeline.

The 5 billion-cubic-meter capacity pipeline will run for 94 kilometers on the Hungarian side and about 20 kilometers on the Slovakian side. The project is supported by €30 million in European Union funding.

The pipeline on the Slovakian side is expected to cost €21 million - €28 million, the radio broadcaster said. (MTI – Econews)

PM says gas pipeline linking Hungary and Croatia to be in full operation by mid-2011

Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai said following a meeting with his Croatian counterpart Jadranka Kosor in Zagreb that the gas pipeline being built between Hungary and Croatia should be done by the end of this year and operating at full capacity by the middle of 2011.
