Without news, and with continuing dilution, it is natural for volume to increase as the price drops.  Conversely, without dilution and adding a little more hope, it is natural to see the share price go up without adding significantly to volume averages.

Having said these things, nothing tells us that we are any closer to a deal than our hearing that discussions are still in progress.  Everything else is speculation.
