Is your friend saying the trading was short covering? That is, people who had shorted the stock were now buying to cover their shorts? How would he know unless he placed the trades for his clients who had been short? Otherwise, this is just rumor. In the past, there have been nefarious evil doers trying to scare investors with stories that this stock was heavily shorted. Given the lack of liquidity, not sure how that could be.
